Dolphins Irk Season-Ticket Holders With Earlier Renewal Date, Raising Prices For Some Seats

The Dolphins will be raising the price of approximately 46% of their seats at Sun Life Stadium for '16 and are "asking all current season ticket customers to commit to renewing for next season" by Dec. 18, which is "earlier than usual and before this season is over and a decision on the next head coach is made," according to Armando Salguero of the MIAMI HERALD. The team said that less than 8% of seats "will be going up more than $5, although it is not immediately known how many are going up in the neighborhood of $5 and how many are going up a much more considerable amount than $5." The team also indicated that the price of 35,710 seats "will remain flat or actually go down." However, pricing is a "secondary complaint among some fans," with the timing of the decision to renew being the "greater concern." The team privately said that this year's deadline is "no different than that of some times in the past." But Salguero noted that is "not true of all past years." One season-ticket holder in an email wrote, "The Dolphins are telling us that the early renewals are because they have a wait list. How stupid do the decision-makers at the Dolphins think we are? This is insulting to all fans" (MIAMI HERALD, 11/28).

FISH OUT OF WATER: The HERALD's Salguero writes following yesterday's 38-20 loss to the Jets, the 4-7 Dolphins are the "worst team the franchise has put on the field" since the '07 team that went 1-15. The troubles lead to both ownership and a coaching staff that "clearly is weeks from being replaced en masse because their audition to win full-time work has failed." Salguero: "This team is in trouble top to bottom ... and I'm not meaning just because it is winless in five games against division opponents. This team is in trouble because no one has solutions for what ails the entire organization" (MIAMI HERALD, 11/30).
