Baseball HOFer WILLIE MAYS accepted the nation’s "highest civilian honor at the White House on Tuesday, as PRESIDENT OBAMA awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom." Mays "didn’t speak during the ceremonies." Obama said it is “because of giants like Mays, (that) someone like me could even think about running for president.” Late Baseball HOFer YOGI BERRA also received the award Tuesday (S.F. CHRONICLE, 11/25).

SEARCH PARTY: Parker Executive Search firm Founder & Chair DAN PARKER said that the Univ. of Illinois "has yet to hire a firm" in its search for a new AD after firing MIKE THOMAS earlier this month. Parker: "We did submit an RFP, like other competitors. We anticipate a decision any day. The next athletic director has to conduct a (football) coach search. Time is short." UI ‎Associate Chancellor of Public Affairs ROBIN KALER "concurred that the school has yet to hire a search firm" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 11/25). 

THE GOOD STUFF: The Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation announced $7M in "donations to Western New York endowments Tuesday, including $500,000 each to Hunter’s Hope and the Western New York Amateur Football Alliance, while also outlining a new philanthropic partnership with the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo." The newest donations, part of a "larger 'legacy gift' funded through the Community Foundation, are consistent with the Wilson Foundation’s mission" (BUFFALO NEWS, 11/25).

NAMES: Comedian DREW CAREY “will serve as master of ceremonies in this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Awards, which will be televised from Las Vegas on NBCSN on Dec. 4.” Carey “replaces JAY MOHR.” Musical guests include ANDY GRAMMER, SAM HUNT, RACHEL PLATTEN and SABRINA CARPENTER (NBCSPORTS.com, 11/24)....Jordan’s PRINCE ALI BIN HUSSEIN, a FIFA presidential candidate, will speak at a National Press Club luncheon Dec. 4 (National Press Club)....The Patriots on Tuesday “paid a visit” to Goodwill’s Boston HQ to “hand off Thanksgiving baskets to men and women in Goodwill’s job training programs.” Among those in attendance was Patriots Owner ROBERT KRAFT (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/25)....Knicks GM STEVE MILLS on Monday “was named to the board” of Chicago-based mutual fund firm Ariel Investments (CHICAGOBUSINESS.com, 11/23).
