NFL Announces Three U.K. Games For Next October; Could Add Another Int'l Matchup

The NFL on Wednesday announced its three-game slate of games in the U.K. next season, highlighted by the Rams playing the first game at Twickenham Stadium. The Rams will play a yet-to-be-determined team from the NFC East on Oct. 23. The other two games are Colts-Jaguars at Wembley Stadium on Oct. 2 and Redskins-Bengals at Wembley on Oct. 30. The times of the three games will be announced later. The NFL also noted another possible game played as part of the Int'l Series but outside the U.K. could be announced at a later date (NFL).  This marks the Colts' "first time participating in the International Series and their first regular season game outside of the U.S." Their game also will be the first time the Jaguars are "playing an AFC South opponent in London." After '16, the 10th year of NFL games in the U.K., either 23 or 24 teams will have participated in the league's "effort to increase interest abroad" (INDYSTAR.com, 11/25). In Jacksonville, Hays Carlyon notes while this is the Colts' first trip abroad, it will be the Jaguars' fourth game at Wembley Stadium, which "should give the Jaguars a significant logistical edge in preparation in a year in which they will be expected to contend for the AFC South title." The game will be "much earlier in the season than year's past," as the Jags' previous three games "were played on Oct. 25, Nov. 9 and Oct. 27" (JACKSONVILLE.com, 11/25).

REDSKINS TO SERVE AS GUINEA PIGS? The AP's Chris Lehourites reports the Redskins "could become the first team to play two NFL games in London in the same season, and in consecutive weeks ...  depending on how the team finishes in the NFC East." The league stated in its release that the Rams' opponent will finish the '15 season in the same spot in the standings in which the Rams finish. (AP, 11/25).
