Facility Notes

In Raleigh, Andrew Carter reports Univ. of North Carolina AD Bubba Cunningham is hopeful the school "will build a new indoor football practice facility that will be ready to use within the next three years.” Some details, including cost and location, "have yet to be finalized." However, Cunningham said that “new indoor college football practice facilities generally range” between $15-40M. He added that the facility “would be entirely funded by the Rams Club, the athletic booster club at UNC” (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 11/25).

THEY PAVED PARADISE...: In Pittsburgh, Mark Belko reports the Pittsburgh Stadium Authority on Tuesday voted 4-1 to move ahead "with plans to build a 798-space parking garage on the North Shore while giving the Pirates and Steelers another year to start their next development -- a 250-unit residential and retail complex.” The garage will cost an estimated $15M and “net 600 new spaces, taking into account those in the Lot 1 being lost to the construction.” The work is “expected to start this spring and take a year” (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 11/25).

FOREIGN AFFAIR: In Sacramento, Dale Kasler reports the NBA Kings are “seeking Chinese investment dollars to help finance redevelopment of the site around the new downtown arena.” Officials with the Kings and their development partner, S.F.-based JMA Ventures, “recently traveled to China to pitch the redevelopment" of Downtown Commons to potential investors. The Kings and JMA plan to build more than $300M worth of development “near the new Golden 1 Center arena, including a hotel-office tower and a shopping and dining district” (SACRAMENTO BEE, 11/25).
