Liberty Univ. Airing Promotional Spot On ESPNews As Part Of Attempted Move To FBS

Liberty Univ. will unveil a new 30-second promotional spot tonight during its football game against Coastal Carolina on ESPNews. The branding message “Beyond Belief,” is intended to highlight the school’s facilities, history, athletes and assets as it attempts to move up from FCS to FBS. The spot was created by LeslieAnne Wade, a former CBS Sports PR executive who now consults with the school on media and branding initiatives. Liberty has also brought on former NCAA Senior VP Greg Shaheen to consult. Liberty AD Jeff Barber said, “Not too many people know about us, so we’re trying to get the word out. Whenever people visit our campus, they always say, ‘I can’t believe it. I had no idea.’ So that’s how we came up with ‘Beyond Belief.’” Liberty is trying to follow the examples set by Notre Dame and BYU, faith-based institutions that compete at the highest levels of D-I. But Liberty will likely need a conference affiliation to make the jump. Barber said the school has recently completed a new softball stadium and is building a new 65,000-square-foot performance and training center. Tonight, Liberty President Jerry Falwell Jr. will announce plans for a new indoor football facility. “We’re FBS ready,” Barber said. “That’s our goal."
