N.C. State Becomes Latest To Renew Apparel Deal, Re-Ups With Adidas For Six Years

N.C. State has signed a six-year extension with adidas for $38.7M "to outfit its 23 sports teams," according to Joe Giglio of the Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER. The deal, which includes uniforms, footwear, apparel and "financial considerations," is a "significant upgrade" from a three-year deal between the two parties signed in '12 worth around $8M. That agreement put N.C. State "among the lower rankings of 'Power 5' conference teams." The current deal was set to expire after the '15-16 school year. The football team last year debuted black adidas uniforms, and will wear "new alternate gray, military-themed uniforms" for their Nov. 21 game against Syracuse. The men's basketball team "has had both black and gray alternate uniforms in recent seasons" (NEWSOBSERVER.com, 11/10). In Raleigh, Jason deBruyn reports N.C. State will get a "minimum royalty guarantee" of $1.8M and an average of $292,500 annually for the length of the deal. In addition to football and men's basketball, the new N.C. State-adidas deal will provide the baseball and women's basketball teams alternate uniforms annually. All four sports will get "strategic marketing, branding and retail support" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 11/10).
