Marketplace Roundup

BIZ WOMEN's Mary Johnson reported the Touch By Alyssa Milano brand late last month announced that it had "received its first licensing agreement" with the NFLPA. The agreement means Milano and her team "can begin creating tops and hoodies bearing players' names and numbers." The apparel will offer "an alternative to the jersey for the female fan who wants to pledge allegiance to a particular player" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 11/3).

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE: In Pittsburgh, Matt Stroud reported locally based Consol Energy "won't be renewing" a ballpark naming-rights deal for the the independent Frontier League Washington Wild Things. The 10-year deal "worth an undisclosed amount" will expire after the '16 season. Apex Marketing Group Managing Partner Eric Smallwood said that there are "about 100 companies being targeted to hopefully take naming rights" for the Pittsburgh-suburb ballpark (BIZJOURNALS.com, 11/3).

CITY ON DOWN: In Boston, Jack Newsham reported local retailer City Sports, which filed for bankruptcy in October, "plans to hold going-out-of-business sales after failing to find a buyer willing to keep its 26 stores open." The company previously had said that it "planned to shutter eight stores and sell the other 18 to a company that would continue to operate" them. Instead, the company's assets "will be sold" to Hilco Merchant Resources and Gordon Brothers Retail Partners. The purchase price "wasn't disclosed" and the sale is set to be finalized today (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/4).
