Overnight Ratings: Breeders' Cup Best Since '10; Notre Dame-Temple Leads CFB Telecasts

NBC drew a 2.6 overnight rating for Saturday afternoon’s Breeders’ Cup Classic, which saw American Pharoah win the “grand slam” of horse racing. That figure from 5:00-6:15pm ET marks the race’s best overnight since ESPN drew a 3.1 in ’10 (6:15-7:15pm). That race saw Blame edge of Zenyatta for the win. This year’s rating is up 46% from a 1.8 last year in primetime and a 1.4 on a Saturday afternoon in ’13. Louisville led all markets with an 8.6 local rating.

NIGHT OWLS: ABC’s Notre Dame-Temple telecast led all college football games on Saturday with a 3.9 overnight rating. The primetime game also drew an 18.1 local rating in Philadelphia, which is the market’s best figure on record (dating back to ’04) for a regular-season game on ABC. Meanwhile, ESPN drew a 2.6 overnight for Ole Miss-Auburn, marking the net cable net’s best noon game rating of the season. Over on CBS, the net drew a 3.4 overnight for the annual Florida-Georgia telecast, down 15% from a 4.0 last year.
