Asics Rushing To Reestablish N.Y. Retail Presence Ahead Of NYC Marathon

Asics is "racing to reestablish its retail presence in the Big Apple after a fallout with its former retail partner triggered the closure last week of its flagship store in Times Square," according to Lisa Fickenscher of the N.Y. POST. The Japanese running shoe brand is "recruiting staff to reopen another store in the Meatpacking District ahead of the TCS New York City Marathon, of which it is a key sponsor." The store, at 420 W. 14th St., "had been run by Windsor Financial Group, which had the exclusive rights to operate Asics retail stores in North America." In July, Asics America "terminated its operating agreement with the company, citing nonpayment of its licensing fee, among other alleged contract breaches." The dispute "led to the shutdown of all 13 stand-alone Asics stores in the U.S. over the next few months" (N.Y. POST, 10/24).
