Despite Media Silence, Lions' Bill Ford Jr. Says His Mother Is Fully In Control Of Franchise

Lions Vice Chair Bill Ford Jr. on Friday said that his mother, Owner & Chair Martha Ford, "is in full control of the franchise," and added that he "has had less to do with the franchise since the death of his father, William Clay Ford Sr., last year," according to Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com. Ford Jr., speaking on WJR-AM, said, "She is (in charge). She is, and since my dad died, I've been less involved with the Lions and the NFL. She is very much in charge, and she's got the decision-making role." Rothstein notes Ford Jr. "serves on the NFL's Broadcasting Committee and is listed as one of the four vice chairs of the Lions, along with his three sisters." Martha "has not spoken" to the Lions beat writers since June 16, which was "the last time a Ford family member" had done so. It "is the only time she has spoken with the media since taking over ownership of the franchise" (ESPN.com, 10/9).
