Rapids Look To Model Relationship With Arsenal After NYC FC-Man City Partnership

The Rapids and EPL club Arsenal are both owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, and Rapids Alternate Gov. Josh Kroenke said the two soccer teams in the "near future" are "going to do something similar" to the relationship between NYC FC and EPL club Manchester City. Kroenke on DENVERPOST.com's "The Sports Show" said, "As MLS has grown in popularity ... the MLS has started to become a serious topic amongst the global community.” He said, "We have a great network of arenas, a good network of fans and it’s not a coincidence people are starting to take the MLS more seriously based on the success of other leagues in North America." He pointed to the ratings success NBCSN has had in airing EPL games against college football games, saying that "tells you there are a lot of people starting to tune into those games.” He said MLS is “only going to continue to grow, and the relationship with Arsenal and the Rapids is only going to continue to grow.” He added the Rapids are “putting together a group of guys that will be able to help all of our teams in the analytics department” ("The Sports Show," DENVERPOST.com, 10/7).

ALL IN THE FAMILY: In St. Louis, David Hunn notes the NFL's finance committee yesterday told members that it had reviewed Stan Kroenke’s "cross-ownership proposal and approved it two weeks ago." Under the terms of the agreement, Kroenke will "hang onto the Rams, but transfer ownership" of the Nuggets and Avalanche to his wife, Ann Walton Kroenke, "through an irrevocable family trust." Josh Kroenke will "continue to run the two teams." NFL Exec VP/Business Ventures Eric Grubman said the cross-ownership issues "had little direct effect" on Kroenke’s bid to move the Rams from St. Louis to L.A. (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 10/8).
