Marketplace Roundup

In a special to USA TODAY, Wayne Coffey writes after U.S. women's national soccer team MF Carli Lloyd's six-goal performance in this summer's FIFA Women's World Cup, she "isn't just on a roll," she has "morphed into a one-woman tsunami." WME-IMG's Josh Weil, who reps Lloyd, said that she "recently signed an endorsement deal with Visa, a book contract and has several other major opportunities under discussion." He added that inquiries about sponsorships, appearances and speaking engagements "have come in by the hundreds" (USA TODAY, 10/7).

BACK IN BLACK: In San Antonio, Dan McCarney writes the Spurs' off-beat spots with local grocer H-E-B "have become something of a cult phenomenon." They are "so well done that the NBA actually sends out copies of the commercials to its other teams as an example of how to market their athletes" (MYSANANTONIO.com, 10/6).

ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN: GOLF DIGEST STIX' Marty Hackel reports U.S. President's Cup captain Jay Haas for this week's event at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in South Korea decided that the team will wear "simple yet patriotic looks from Fairway & Greens." The gray-striped trousers the Americans will wear on tomorrow have a "smart and sensible look." So too "do the clean-looking half-zip pullovers the U.S. team will wear on the first three days." The Sunday jacket, "a two-way zip, is another nice addition to this line" (GOLF DIGEST STIX, 10/7 issue).
