NFL To Continue Playing Overseas, But Now Have Ability To Look Outside U.K.

NFL owners this morning voted to continue playing regular-season games overseas through '25, though the games are no longer limited to the U.K. Under the two previous five-year resolutions, games were limited to the U.K., and including the two remaining games this month in London, the NFL will have played 14 games there. The resolution does not specify where future games will be played. NFL Exec VP/Int'l Mark Waller after the vote at the owners meeting said he would be shocked if games did not continue in London, which hosts three games this season. He also identified Mexico and Germany as countries that could host games as well. The '16 schedule of overseas games will be announced later this fall, the league said. The initial overseas resolution, passed in '06 to start in the '07 season, allowed the NFL for five years to play up to two games annually in the U.K. Another five-year term came in '11, with that one allowing more than two games annually, all in the U.K.
