Franchise Notes

In S.F., Ann Killion writes the 49ers "have surpassed themselves in at least one category this season: The level of antipathy and anger directed at CEO Jed York is greater than even what his father faced a decade ago." There is "so much unhappiness surrounding the 49ers’ performance on the field," and many fans have "rightly targeted York and the man he picked to run the operation," GM Trent Baalke. Killion: "That's what happens when you talk about raising only Super Bowl banners. About winning with class." Many 49ers fans "think they are victims of a bait-and-switch: They bought tickets for a new stadium to see a team that recently had launched a winning era, only to have that era dismantled almost as soon as their checks cleared" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 10/2).

NOT JOSHING YOU: 76ers Managing Owner Josh Harris said the team is "making progress" despite missing the playoffs three years in a row. Harris: "I'm an impatient person at heart. I would rather get to the end point as fast as possible, but at the same time the goal is still the goal -- to be an elite, extremely competitive team that goes deep into the playoffs. ... There aren't shortcuts to it. You have to react to the realities on the ground. Certainly I wish it was going faster but I'm happy with the progress." In Philadelphia, Bob Cooney notes Harris on Thursday "was pretty assertive when asked about whether he has any plans to sell this team in the near future, now that he has made a sizeable profit since taking over four years ago." Harris: "There's not plans to sell" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 10/2).

TEXAS, OUR TEXAS: In Dallas, Robert Wilnosky reports the MLB Rangers "just debuted a brand-new rally tee: the red 'Never Ever Quit' model." Part of the proceeds "will go toward seasonal employees at the ballpark." Rangers Ps Shawn Tolleson, Sam Dyson, Jake Diekman and Ross Ohlendorf wanted to do "something special for the stretch drive" of the season and came up with the idea. The whole project "was done in-house" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 10/2).
