Lakers' Jim Buss Has No Plans To Sell Team, Happy With Current Ownership Structure

Lakers Exec VP/Player Personnel Jim Buss said there is "no point" in selling the team because it is a "family business," according to Eric Pincus of the L.A. TIMES. He said his brother, Lakers Dir of Scouting Jesse Buss, does an "incredible job," while another brother, NBA D-League L.A. D-Fenders President & CEO Joey Buss, "does a great job." Jim Buss: "They're the future of the Lakers. We're not going to sell, that's all there is to it." Meanwhile, Buss said the team has relied on an analytics staff for "six (or) seven years, but before that we were breaking down shot charts, everything we could get our hands on." Buss: "We've been using them for quite a long time. That's basically (on) what I make all my decisions, is my own analytics." Pincus noted Buss "simply disagrees" with the notion that the Lakers are behind the times. Buss: "It's an unfair assessment. We don't announce what we do ... if we are ahead of the game why would we tell people what we're doing, so that they can catch up?" Buss: "Analytics doesn't really get to that human detail of, 'Does he fit with this guy?' Percentage-wise and stat-wise he does, but you have personalities, style of play, coaches that have a style of play and you have to put that all together" (L.A. TIMES, 8/29).
