Iowa State Completes South End Zone Renovations To Jack Trice Stadium

Construction "recently wrapped up" on Iowa State's $60M renovation project which includes "expanding and enclosing the Jack Trice Stadium south end zone in advance" of the '15 college football season, according to Bobby La Gesse of the AMES TRIBUNE. ISU AD Jamie Pollard said, "It’s really symbolic of the growth that we have made and in who we are. I have joked with some people and said we’ve gone from being a high school stadium to being a real stadium." La Gesse notes ISU has invested $160M "into athletic facility upgrades over the last decade." The Jack Trice expansion "is the crown jewel," as fans "clamored for decades to enclose the south end zone." Capacity at Jack Trice "is now 61,500, making it the third-largest Big 12 football venue." The expansion "included a second videoboard, a renovation of existing south end zone seating and the club section." ISU Senior Associate AD/Facilities, Planning & Management Chris Jorgensen said that the school "has sold about 2,200 seat tickets in the club." He added that "all 3,000 club seats are expected to be sold for the first two games." Pollard: “This is a major, major step in putting us in a position that says we got everything anybody needs now to win" (AMES TRIBUNE, 8/27).

GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING: Wietz Co. Project Manager Ben Bunge, who oversaw the renovation, said, "It’s definitely wild ... (The south end zone will) be a landmark for the next 50 years that you can take your kids and grandkids past it.” Pollard said that the stadium project "had been talked about for at least 25 years, but it didn’t pick up traction until" November '13 when he "walked into his office on a Friday morning and found a game-changing email in his inbox." In Des Moines, Andy Hamilton notes "it was a message from Roy Reiman, an Iowa State graduate and the founder of Reiman Publications." He and his wife, Bobbi, "informed Pollard they planned to donate" $25M (DES MOINES REGISTER, 8/27).

APPLE OF HIS EYE: Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt said of new additions to the school's football venue, "There’s probably no more prominent building or facility on this campus than Jones AT&T Stadium and so it was important for us to come in and enhance and renovate the seating structure in the lower bowl -- it looks brand new." He added, "I’m very pleased with the way that project turned out and couldn’t be more proud about the way that it looks and excited about the continued renovations that are taking place on the east side, with some of the office space built out. Immediately following this football season ... we’re going to go into the north end zone ... and we’re going to repurpose that building into a gameday club space with some loge-seating, with some club seating extending off the front" (DALLASNEWS.com, 8/26).
