ESPN Maintains Top Spot In ComScore Rankings But Sees Another Monthly Drop

ESPN in July led monthly comScore sports rankings of multiplatform digital reach for the 17th consecutive month, but its total of 71.6 million unique visitors represented its fourth consecutive decrease, and its lowest figure since May '14. ESPN's slide extends a marked reversal from a torrid stretch in which it set four separate comScore sports category records between June '14-January '15. However, ESPN's consumption totals did edge up slightly from June, rising to 82.1 minutes per user during July and again leading the category. Meanwhile, MLB posted a new company best during July with a reach total of 42 million uniques, fueled in part by events around the league's All-Star Game and non-waiver trade deadline. It also ranked second in the category behind ESPN in consumption with more than 2.5 billion minutes in total time spent. The July totals are the last before an expected audience onslaught in the category from the return of fantasy football and regular football coverage in August and September.
