As Stewart Exits "The Daily Show," A Look Back At His Many Mets References, Appearances

Thursday night marked the end of an era in late-night TV as Comedy Central’s JON STEWART for the final time hosted “THE DAILY SHOW” with a special 60-minute broadcast. While the  majority of Stewart’s comedy over the years was political satire, he often poked fun at sports. Stewart would plead with his beloved Mets to become a winning franchise once again. Over the years, current and former Mets, such as MIKE PIAZZA, MOOKIE WILSON, DAVID WRIGHT and MATT HARVEY, have appeared on the show, as well former Yankees MARIANO RIVERA and DEREK JETER. When Harvey appeared, Stewart told him, “It is the Mets. Here’s my thought -- You dominate the league for like two years, and then, they trade you for a milking goat and some magic beans, because that is generally the way they handle excellent ballplayers.”

Below are some Mets-inspired excerpts from Stewart during the show throughout the years:

“The weather is warming up, baseball season is here, my Mets are already in mid-season sucking form” (April '10).

“The Mets are at the bottom of the Arab League as well!? That can’t be! That’s just embarrassing!” (September '10).

(To Mookie Wilson) “Thank you for being here because that’s the (first) time in many years that I can actually say that to a New York Met.” (April '14)

“The Mets and I have had one thing in common: Neither of us had ever thrown a no-hitter.” Former MLBer JOHAN SANTANA, after he tossed the franchise’s first no-hitter on June 1, 2012.
