Sources: Wizards Near Deal With Towson Univ. To Host Portion Of Training Camp

The Wizards "are on the verge of signing a deal to open" training camp at Towson Univ., according to sources cited by J. Michael of CSNWASHINGTON.com. The last few days of camp "would be back at Verizon Center, which hosted all of camp last season, before the preseason opens." After previously having camps at George Mason Univ., the Wizards "stopped going after the on-campus hotel closed and there weren't any accommodations in close enough proximity." Going back to Richmond, where the Wizards have held camps at VCU, "also had been discussed." But going to Towson "is in line with the Wizards' attempts to reconnect" with the Baltimore region. The team called Baltimore home from '63-73 (CSNWASHINGTON.com, 8/4). In Baltimore, Don Markus cites a source as saying that the Wizards "will likely move the first week of camp to Towson's two-year-old SECU Arena." It would "mark the first time the Wizards held camp in Maryland since the team trained at Bowie State" during the '90s (Baltimore SUN, 8/5).
