Blues' Stillman Staying The Course Despite Some Fans' Calls For Major Change

Asked about fans' desire for change after last season's first-round playoff exit, Blues Owner Tom Stillman said management "can’t make decisions on the makeup of your team based on whether a group of fans wants you to do this or do that, just for the sake of doing something," according to Tom Timmermann of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. Stillman: "While on chatboards and other comment areas people want massive changes, what we’re seeing among our supporters is really strong support. Really strong season-ticket renewals, a big uptick in new season tickets, more interest in suites and our other offerings this year. We’re not seeing this downturn in support. Folks think I read these chatboards too much and I do ... but we’re not seeing that." Stillman said of what is driving the increase in season tickets, "It's how well the team did, how entertaining the team is, how fun it is to be at Scottrade Center for those games. ... We’ve done a lot of great work on developing more proprietary content, videos and things that bring people a lot closer to the team and behind the scenes. Those sorts of things build additional interest." He added of the team's financial outlook, "We’re much more stable than we were two years ago. We have to continue to grow that for a few reasons. One of them is the salary cap is going to continue to be the rabbit we’re chasing. It’s going to continue to move, we have to continue to grow, to keep up so we can put a really competitive team on the ice" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 8/2).
