Platini: “There are times in life when you have to take your destiny into your own hands. I am at one of those decisive moments, at a juncture in my life and in events that are shaping the future of FIFA” (CNN.com, 7/29). Platini's announcement "is likely to prompt other contenders to confirm their plans to stand" (REUTERS, 7/28). A "credible opponent to Platini has yet to emerge" (PA, 7/28).

NAMES: La Liga side Levante's Fundación Cent Anys del Levante UD, which owns 70% of the shares in the club, voted against a sale to Suns Owner ROBERT SARVER, whose offer did not receive the 22 votes of approval required from the 33-member board (SUPERDEPORTE, 7/28)....Colts LS MATT OVERTON "has turned entrepreneur while still playing football." Overton has opened The Blockhouse Indianapolis, "an exclusive tailgating venue just one block from Lucas Oil Stadium, has opened and is taking memberships for the upcoming Colts season." For a cost "ranging from $1,200 to $1,500, depending on the size of the vehicle, members get a reserved, personal parking spot for each of the Colts home games and access for two people inside The Blockhouse" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 7/29).
