Executive Transactions

In N.Y., Sam Borden reported FIFA Secretary General JEROME VALCKE, the top deputy to President SEPP BLATTER, indicated Friday that he expected his career at the organization "to end along with his boss’s when a special election for a new leader is held in February." Valcke, who has been FIFA’s secretary general since '07, has "resisted calls to resign in light of allegations of corruption at the organization, but he said on Friday that he anticipated FIFA’s next president would name a new secretary general." Valcke: "If I would be the next FIFA president, I would take a new general secretary, so yes, whoever becomes president should have a new general secretary because it is the most important relationship for any organization" (N.Y. TIMES, 7/25).

EXECS: The Devils on Friday named Penguins Assistant GM TOM FITZGERALD to the same position (Devils). The Penguins "have yet to determine a replacement" for Fitzgerald, who had a "significant role in player development" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 7/25)....The NBA Kings have "cut ties" with Dir of Player Personnel & Analytics DEAN OLIVER, who was hired "just this September." Oliver "appears to have butted heads" with Kings VP/Basketball & Franchise Operations VLADE DIVAC, who has "become the team's lead basketball decision-maker in recent months" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 7/26)....Lakers trainer GARY VITTI will leave his current position after next season, "his 32nd with the team." He will "remain with the team as a special consultant two more years after next season, but his traveling days will end, along with the team's round-the-clock reliance on the NBA's longest-tenured trainer" (L.A. TIMES, 7/27).
