Giants' Bumgarner Leads List Of MLB Jersey Sales Through First Half Of '15 Season

Giants P Madison Bumgarner tops the list of MLB jersey sales at the league's official online shop from Opening Day to the All-Star Game. Last season's World Series MVP appears on the list for the first time, as does Cubs 3B Kris Bryant, whose second-place ranking is the highest of any rookie since the league and MLBPA began releasing jersey sales rankings in '10. Six of the top 10 players on the list are 26 years old or younger (MLB).

MORE OF NOTE: YAHOO SPORTS' Chris Cwik wrote Trout has "certainly done enough in his career to warrant praise, while Bumgarner dominated on a national level during the World Series last season." Harper "has taken a big step forward this season, while Bryant has already shown his potential during his brief stint in the majors." Losing Derek Jeter to retirement after last season "could have been disastrous to MLB's image," but it appears fans are "more than willing to embrace the next batch of superstars" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 7/23). Meanwhile, ESPN.com's Darren Rovell noted this marks the "first time since MLB began releasing jersey sales data" that a Yankees player "was not ranked among the top 20 for the first half of the season" (ESPN.com, 7/23).
