NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski Agrees To Four-Year Deal To Stay With Yahoo Sports

Yahoo Sports has agreed to terms on a new four-year contract with NBA columnist Adrian Wojnarowski, ending an extended negotiation period in which he nearly left for SI. Wojnarowski had been in deep talks for many months with SI about building a new basketball site around him, similar to what the sports media giant has done with Peter King for The MMQB. But Yahoo returned with a counter offer that sources said was worth in excess of $5M over the life of the contract, in addition to commitments for personnel that will report to Wojnarowski as he leads an as-yet-unamed basketball-centric project there. Wojnarowski confirmed the deal to stay at Yahoo, where he has been since ’06, but declined to comment further. Negotiations for Yahoo were led by CMO & Head of Global Media Kathy Savitt and ultimately involved final sign-off from President & CEO Marissa Mayer. Wojnarowski is represented by CSE VP/Broadcasters & New Media Personalities Matt Kramer. A formal signing and official announcement is expected in the coming days.
