Officials Hopeful Wi-Fi Can Be Installed At NRG Stadium During '15 NFL Season

Negotiations are being held for the installation of Wi-Fi at NRG Stadium, and Harris County Sports & Convention Corp. Chair Edgar Colon said that he "hopes a deal can be struck in time for the system to be installed" during the '15 NFL season, according to David Barron of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Colon said, "We hope to wrap up negotiations within the month so they can start the installation shortly thereafter. It may be during the season (but) not at the start of the season." He added that cost and funding plans are the "'subject of the negotiations' with the potential contractor." Barron notes Wi-Fi has been a "priority for the Texans and the NFL as the clock ticks" toward the team hosting Super Bowl LI in '17. League officials last year indicated progress on Wi-Fi at NRG Stadium "was essential" as that Super Bowl approaches. Stadium officials last year indicated that installing Wi-Fi throughout the stadium "would cost about" $5M (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 7/16).
