BROADCASTING & CABLE’s Jon Lafayette cited data from media tracking firm iSpot showing that Fox Sports generated an estimated $26.8M “in advertising revenue” for FIFA Women’s World Cup game coverage “on its broadcast and cable networks.” The “top spenders” were Nationwide Insurance at about $2.1M, Fiat ($1.7M), Ford ($1.5M), Visa ($1.3M) and Bud Light ($1.0M). The “most familiar ad was the blue pill ad from Fiat, which was backed with about 6% of the total ad spending” (BROADCASTINGCABLE.com, 7/6).

Bender has an endorsement deal with adidas, but
the Croatian federation required players wear Nike
SHOE BENDER: SI.com’s Luke Winn noted European basketball's “brightest teenage phenom,” Croatia F Dragan Bender, was “erased from his national team roster due to a dispute over wearing Jordan Brand or adidas.” Bender never suited up at last week's FIBA U19 World Championship “due to the fact that he's signed to an exclusive endorsement contract with adidas, and the Croatian federation was taking a hard-line stance on its players wearing Jordans or Nikes.” Croatia C Ivica Zubac, who plays with Bender, believed that Bender “would have had to ‘pay 50,000 euros’ back to adidas had he appeared at the U19s in Jordans” (SI.com, 7/2).

SHOPPING AT THE SAME STORE: The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER’s Sam Reed wrote David Beckham and comedian Kevin Hart “have a lot in common” in their new campaign for clothier H&M, so much so that it has become difficult to “tell them apart anymore (kind of).” The pair “posted behind-the-scenes Instagram shots of their latest project in which they can be seen working out, posing with wildlife taxidermy and taking selfies (both filtered and #unfiltered) -- all while dressed identically from head to toe” (HOLLYWOODREPORTER.com, 7/6).
