Facility Notes

Tampa Sports Authority VP/Marketing & Communications Bobby Silvest yesterday said ongoing negotiations to finalize a package of facility upgrades next year for Raymond James Stadium are "progressing quite well." In Tampa, Greg Auman noted the Buccaneers "have been in talks with Hillsborough County and the TSA on the scope and funding of stadium upgrades, which will likely include a new set of video boards." The improvements "likely would be in place" before the '16 NFL season. Silvest said that he is "optimistic a deal can be completed in the 'very near future'" (TAMPABAY.com, 6/29).

MIAMI IN A VICE? In Miami, Barry Jackson reported while some at UM are "cautiously hopeful a joint MLS/Hurricanes football stadium at Marlins Park can get done, another high-ranking UM official said he’s skeptical of this happening because of political landmines." In addition, Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross "isn’t inclined to let UM out of its Sun Life Stadium lease without a buyout payment," barring "a change of heart" (MIAMIHERALD.com, 6/27).

PEACHY KEEN: In Marietta, Ricky Leroux notes the Georgia Supreme Court yesterday ruled unanimously that Cobb County’s plan to issue up to $397M in bonds to finance the construction of SunTrust Park "is legal." The bonds will be "paid off over 30 years by the county and the Braves through an intergovernmental agreement." The Exhibit Hall Authority "will also own the stadium," along with the team (Marietta DAILY JOURNAL, 6/30).

KING'S FEAST: In K.C., Yael Abouhalkah noted Royals fans are “finding plenty to complain about when it comes to eating” at Kauffman Stadium, but it “turns out some of the recent criticism of Aramark’s food operations was fake.” The K.C. Health Department yesterday said that food inspectors "have responded to two fraudulent food safety complaints” (KANSASCITY.com, 6/29).
