New MGM-AEG Arena In Las Vegas Could Become Home To Signature PBR Competition

The PBR holds its Built Ford World Finals at Las Vegas' Thomas & Mack Center every October, but with a number of new venues popping up on the Strip, that may soon change, according to new PBR CEO Sean Gleason. PBR's contract with Thomas & Mack Center ends after this year's event, and Gleason said the organization is keeping an eye on the 20,000-seat, MGM-AEG arena -- set to open in ’16 -- as a potential host. Gleason noted MGM has been a sponsor of PBR for more than 10 years, while AEG has been a business partner for 15. Gleason: “We have obviously had conversations with them about the opportunities presented by the new arena. We haven’t signed anything tentative, but we’re certainly looking at it.” PBR has held the World Finals at Thomas & Mack Center since '99. While PBR might be on the way out, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association will keep its signature event at Thomas & Mack for the long-term. The PRCA in December signed a 10-year extension with Las Vegas Events and the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority to keep its Wrangler National Finals Rodeo at Thomas & Mack. The event has been held there since '85.
