Earnhardt, Sherman, Fowler Among Pros Backing New Brain Training App For Athletes

Brain training game HeadTrainer yesterday unveiled the first sports-based app that "offers to train the brain in the areas of focus and concentration, visual and spatial awareness, processing speed, memory and decision making," according to Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., Seahawks CB Richard Sherman, golfer Rickie Fowler, Blue Jays RF Jose Bautista and U.S. women's national soccer team F Alex Morgan are among those "endorsing the new tool." The Charlotte-based company run by entrepreneur Rick Sabath "went to the Duke Sports Science Institute to build the app, which has 15 games and is broken down into 10 sports." The HeadTrainer app "is free to download, but offers a $4.99 monthly subscription to do more advanced training." Athletes who are putting their name behind the app "have been compensated both in cash and an equity stake in the company" (ESPN.com, 6/15). Tennis player Caroline Wozniacki and surfer Alana Blanchard also "have backed the app" (SPORTSTECHIE.com, 6/16). ESPN's Jay Bilas and Kirk Herbstreit also are listed on the company's website as ambassadors (THE DAILY).
