Jets To Implement Dynamic Pricing For Season-Tickets; Browns Also Change Pricing Model

The NFL Jets have informed season-ticket holders that they will be "using a variable-pricing plan for home games this season," according to Kimberley Martin of NEWSDAY. The team "utilized variable pricing for individual game tickets last season, but this is the first time they're using it for season tickets." The total price for season-ticket packages "will remain the same" (NEWSDAY, 6/4). The AP's Dennis Waszak reported individual games within each season-ticket package are "assigned one of three tiers: marquee, premier and preseason." The differences in ticket prices "range from about $6-56 for marquee and $50 for premier in corner-end zone seats in the upper level of the stadium -- to $20-183 for marquee and $163 for premier in the lower prime seats." For preseason games, the lower prime seats "cost $120.50, while the corner-end zone seats in the upper level are $38" (AP, 6/3).

WHAT BROWN CAN DO: In Cleveland, Tom Reed reported the Browns have chosen to "adopt a variable-ticket pricing model" after they "mulled the option for a year." The team "notified season-ticket holders of the decision before releasing it publicly." The plan "does not impact the overall price of a season-ticket package, but does divide ticket prices into four tiers based on the anticipated demand for each game." The Browns, who in January "raised ticket prices for the first time in seven years, will employ the method for both" season tickets and single-game tickets (CLEVELAND.com, 5/29). Browns President Alec Scheiner on Tuesday said, "I think it probably always made sense. Now is just a good time to do it because we knew enough about what our fans cared about." He added, "What I think is good about it is it more accurately reflects the value of our single-game tickets. It happens across sports, and the NFL maybe wasn’t as quick to adapt it as the other sports" (CRAINSCLEVELAND.com, 6/3).
