When You Wish Upon A Star: Browns Sign Nine-Year-Old To One-Day Contract

The Browns yesterday signed 9-year-old Dylan Sutcliffe to a "one-day contract after his family told the Make-A-Wish Foundation he wanted to meet the team," according to Nate Ulrich of the AKRON BEACON JOURNAL. He was "diagnosed with ataxia telangiectasia, or A-T, a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system, immune system and other body systems." The Sutcliffe family was "picked up by a limousine" and taken to Browns HQ yesterday morning where about 200 members of the organization "were waiting to greet Dylan with cheers." During a tour of the building, Sutcliffe "watched film" with GM Ray Farmer and "signed his contract." He met head coach Mike Pettine and "watched tape" of his "favorite player" DT Phil Taylor practicing. The Browns "held an introductory news conference" at 10:30am ET to "announce the signing" of Sutcliffe. Farmer "presented him with a No. 7 jersey and labeled him a defensive lineman" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 6/3). In Cleveland, Dan Labbe notes Sutcliffe "got a chance to hang out with" Taylor during the team's practice. Taylor after practice said that he "first met Dylan when the team took him to Dave & Buster's a few weeks ago" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 6/3).
