Media Notes

VARIETY's Cynthia Littleton noted DirecTV Chair & CEO Mike White was "very enthusiastic about the results" of Saturday’s Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao PPV bout. He said the fight “blew the doors off in terms of sales.” White added that DirecTV "logged more than 1 million sales -- a record for the satcaster." Littleton noted there were "some technical hitches but not significant enough to prevent customers from accessing the fight" (VARIETY.com, 5/5).

APPLE OF MY EYE: VARIETY's Todd Spangler noted a CBS Sports app was added to the Apple TV lineup yesterday, and while viewers "will be able watch CBS Sports' coverage of many different sports live," they "will not be able to watch" NFL games. The CBS Sports app on Apple TV "can now access live sporting events including SEC football games, NCAA basketball and the PGA Tour." In addition, shows such as "Rome," "Boomer and Carton," "Fantasy Football Today" and "Fantasy Baseball Today" "will be available" (VARIETY.com, 5/5).

LATE-NIGHT SNACK: In Boston, John Powers noted a "significant number of next year’s Olympic events" in Rio will "wrap up around or after" 12:00am ET. All of the swimming finals will "end around the witching hour, as will the last basketball game of the day." Beach volleyball at Copacabana "goes even later, with the gold-medal matches scheduled" for 1:30am. While Brazilian sports fans "tend to be night owls, the primary push came from NBC." On the flip side, there will be morning finals in track and field for the "first time since" the Seoul Games in '88. Since track and field is the "most popular sport on the Olympic program, the idea is to give televiewers around the planet a chance to see something live" (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/5).

STAYING FIT: ENGADGET's Terrence O'Brien noted Under Armour roughly three months ago "snatched up Endomondo and MyFitnessPal for about" $500M. Now the sports apparel company is "looking for a return on its investment by rolling out the first paid-for premium version of MyFitnessPal." This is "meant for serious fitness buffs," as for "either $10 a month or $50 a year users can build custom nutrition reports and dig through the minutia of their health data without being bothered by ads" (ENGADGET.com, 5/5).
