49ers Drop Controversial Proposal To Take Over Youth Soccer Park Near Levi's Stadium

The 49ers "could be dropping a controversial" $15M offer to "take over a youth soccer park across from Levi's Stadium," according to Joe Rodriguez of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. Santa Clara councilwoman Lisa Gillmor, who opposed the project, said that 49ers COO Al Guido "left a message on her phone last Friday indicating plans to drop and revise the offer." Guido last week "pitched the team's proposal before hundreds of soccer kids, parents, coaches and other residents who had crammed into City Hall." The offer included $15M in "up-front rent over 39 years for use of the soccer park for stadium parking, a cut of stadium parking revenues" and $3M for "school field improvements." The crowd "listened politely before blasting the proposal for more than two hours" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 4/29).
