Cablevision Offers Broadband Package For Cord-Cutters, But Doesn't Include Cable Nets

Cablevision is "attempting to woo cord cutters with an appealing broadband package that comes with a free antenna and a digital Wi-Fi phone service," according to Claire Atkinson of the N.Y. POST. The package "is priced between $35 to $50" (N.Y. POST, 4/24). The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Joe Flint notes Cablevision’s cord-cutter deal, unlike a similar offering from Verizon, "doesn’t come with any access to cable channels" such as ESPN or MTV. The antenna "will let viewers access broadcast TV programming from CBS, Fox, ABC and NBC" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 4/24). Atkinson also reports Disney's TV and radio stations "are refusing to accept ads for Verizon FiOS' new slimmed-down cable-TV package." A Verizon spokesperson said, "This happens to be anti-competitive" (N.Y. POST, 4/24).
