Audience Analysis: NBCSN Draws Its Best F1 Audience Yet; Blues See RSN Record

NBCSN drew 630,000 viewers for the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday from 10:31am-12:49pm ET, marking the cable net’s best F1 audience since it acquired rights prior to the ’13 season. The audience also marks the most-viewed, non-domestic F1 race on cable TV in eight years, dating back to the ’07 season-ending Brazil Grand Prix, which drew 662,000 viewers on Speed. Sunday’s race had a lead-in from an EPL match that drew 271,000 viewers.

SLAP SHOTS: FS Midwest drew a 12.4 local rating in St. Louis for Blues-Wild Game 4 on Wednesday night, marking the RSN’s best figure ever for a Blues game. Three of the five most-watched Blues games on the RSN have come during the first-round series this year. Meanwhile, MSG Net and MSG+ have combined to average a 4.74 local rating in N.Y. through the first four games of the Rangers-Penguins series, up 74% compared to the first three games of the Rangers-Flyers series last year. MSG Net/MSG+ also drew a 2.64 local rating in N.Y. for Tuesday’s Capitals-Islanders Game 4, marking the Isles’ second-best first-round game rating since ’02.

NOTES: HBO drew 1.24 million viewers for the main event in its “Boxing After Dark” program last Saturday from 10:49-11:37pm, which featured Lucas Matthysse over Ruslan Provodnikov in a 12-round majority decision. Showtime also had a primetime boxing event on Saturday night, with its main event -- Andrzej Fonfara defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. -- drawing 618,000 viewers from 11:23pm-12:01am....FS1 drew 806,000 viewers for the U.S.-Mexico friendly on April 15, which compares to the 2.76 million viewers that watched the Spanish-language telecast on UniMas. The match also ranked No. 6 overall among the Nielsen Twitter ratings for sports events during the week of April 13-19, behind only four NBA Playoff games and one Stanley Cup Playoff game.
