St. Louis Rep Reportedly Optimistic After Presentation To NFL Stadium Task Force

St. Louis Sports Commission Chair Dave Peacock was "feeling good" after yesterday's presentation to the NFL's stadium task force at league HQ in N.Y., according to sources cited by Jim Thomas of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. Peacock was the "main speaker" at the multimedia presentation and Q&A session, but the St. Louis group "also included" task force attorney Bob Blitz, stadium consultant John Loyd and HOK VP & Design Principal Eli Hoisington. Rams Exec VP/Football Operations & COO Kevin Demoff "also was in the room for the meeting, although it was not believed that he had an active role in the presentation." At the league’s request, Peacock "will refrain from commenting on the meeting until he returns to St. Louis, and he is expected to speak" tomorrow. The L.A. opportunities committee "consists of the following" six team owners: the Chiefs' Clark Hunt, the Patriots' Robert Kraft, the Giants' John Mara, the Texans' Bob McNair, the Panthers' Jerry Richardson and the Steelers' Art Rooney II (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 4/23).

SILVER & BLACK EYE? In Oakland, Matthew Artz writes Renaissance Cos. Chair Floyd Kephart's "shadowy efforts to build a stadium drew criticism from the NFL and impatience" from Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. Kephart yesterday "lashed out at the league’s top stadium official," NFL Exec VP/Business Ventures Eric Grubman, for "telling a Southern California radio station that the city’s stadium plan had 'gone backwards.'" Kephart: "Every time he comes, there is a backward step. And if he would just stay the hell out of here, we might actually get a deal done." Schaaf "quickly distanced herself from Kephart’s comments about Grubman." She said, "I agree with the NFL. This is not moving fast enough. We are also anxious for the Raiders and Kephart to come up with a project." Artz notes Kephart "has an exclusive contract with the city and Alameda County to put together financing for a multibillion-dollar transformation of the 120-acre Coliseum complex into a dense urban center." The proposal "has the support of the City Council, but Kephart has not received a commitment from the Raiders and has been rejected" by the A’s (OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 4/23).

MISSING THE MARK: The AP's Michael Blood reported while the Raiders and Chargers are trying to build a $1.7B stadium in Carson, Raiders Owner Mark Davis "was listed as a special guest" by Inglewood Mayor James Butts Jr. for a recent speech. An Inglewood stadium is being proposed by Rams Owner Stan Kroenke. Butts' office in a Monday statement said the event would include a presentation with “the inside scoop ... on the NFL relocation process as it relates to the 80,000-seat stadium that will break ground in December." The Raiders in a Tuesday statement then said that Davis "would not attend." Butts' office yesterday "reversed course." They said that Davis "would not be on hand because of a 'scheduling conflict'" (AP, 4/22).
