Sports Entities With Blue Bell Sponsorships Respond To Recent Product Recall

Sports properties with ties to Blue Bell Creameries are responding to the brand's expanded recall of ice cream and other frozen treats. The MLB Rangers, Astros and Texas A&M athletics all removed Blue Bell products from their venues in recent weeks following a series of more gradual recalls, which preceded this week's full recall of all products due to a listeria outbreak. Texas A&M's baseball team plays at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park, and Associate AD/Media Relations Alan Cannon in an e-mail wrote the school is "looking forward to again serving Blue Bell ice cream and other products at our venues once all safety concerns have been addressed." He said Blue Bell “continues to be an outstanding partner” of the A&M athletic program. Rangers Exec VP/Communications John Blake in an e-mail noted the team and concessionaire Sportservice did not carry Blue Bell products of any kind during the first homestand this season. He said the team currently is “looking at the options going forward." The Astros had no comment on the expanded outbreak, but team President of Business Operations Reid Ryan earlier this month issued a statement saying, "We continue to support Blue Bell as they proactively address any safety concerns and we look forward to having this Texas tradition back in the ball park soon."
