49ers Confident Turf Issues At Levi's Stadium Will Be Resolved Prior To Super Bowl 50

Saturday night's Monster Energy AMA Supercross is the "latest in a string of variety acts appearing" at Levi's Stadium this year, but the 49ers "are confident, through planned sod replacements, they will avoid the playing-field fiasco that marred their debut season there," according to Cam Inman of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. Before the 49ers return for a second season at the venue, it will have "hosted ice hockey, pro wrestling, monster trucks, pro soccer, prep football all-stars and at least seven concerts." Despite that, a "new and neatly manicured field is expected in place" when the stadium hosts Super Bowl 50 Feb. 7. Other sod replacements "will occur before then, ideally with less drama than the five makeovers during the 49ers' inaugural season at Levi's Stadium." The 49ers said that a "brand new field will be installed next month, before the Earthquakes' MLS game May 24 against Orlando City SC, and after the May 2 concert of Kenny Chesney & Jason Aldean." More summer concerts on the schedule include the Grateful Dead, One Direction, Taylor Swift and Luke Bryan. The latter two are slated for August, but there is "no word, and no outright concern yet, on what the field conditions will be for the 49ers home exhibitions" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 4/17).
