Ravens' Bisciotti Talks Handling of Domestic Violence, Possibly Playing In London

Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti said that he is "embarrassed that his team and the NFL placed domestic violence on the same level as all of the other off-field infractions," according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com. The Ravens dealt with the fallout of the Ray Rice situation throughout the '14 season, and Bisciotti yesterday told season-ticket holders in a conference call, "We were pretty stupid not to recognize domestic violence as a category by itself. No other infractions -- failed drug tests, bar fights or DUIs -- nothing to me should rise to that level. I'm embarrassed to say that they were lumped together. So, I'm happy that we found ourselves comfortable taking that categorically and putting it ... at the top of the list as something that is just unacceptable." Bisciotti then "reiterated the franchise's stance on avoiding players with domestic violence in their backgrounds." He said, "It's changing our draft board and it certainly is going to change the free agents that we're looking at" (ESPN.com, 4/1). Meanwhile, in Baltimore, Jeff Zrebiec notes the Ravens have "yet to play in one of the league's 'International Series' games in London, but Bisciotti expects that to change in the near future." Bisciotti during the call said, "I would absolutely love going to London. I'm all for it. I think it would be a blast." However, he added, "I don't want it to be a home game." Bisciotti continued, "I would say probably there's a 75 to 80 percent chance that it will happen over the next four seasons and an 80 percent chance that it will be a road game" (Baltimore SUN, 4/2).

THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR: Under Armour came under some scrutiny for having its logo on the Ravens' practice facility and on the backdrop of the team’s press conference during the Rice controversy. UA Founder, Chair & CEO Kevin Plank said, “We are dear partners with the Ravens here in our backyard. It’s an incredibly important institution here in the city of Baltimore. But we’re also aware there were some things that didn’t go right and I think the NFL is taking some steps to arrest that. I’m very fortunate that we have a company that will have partners like the Ravens and the NFL standing next to us if we ever needed them as well” (“Jim Rome on Showtime,” 4/1).
