Franchise Notes

The Brewers yesterday announced that the "Selig Experience," an attraction at Miller Park to honor former Brewers Owner and MLB Commissioner Bud Selig, will open to the public May 29 for the team's game against the D-backs. The experience, located on Miller Park's loge level in the left-field corner, is a multimedia presentation that tells the story of Selig's role in bringing the Brewers to Milwaukee, his commitment to building Miller Park and his efforts to grow the game of baseball (Brewers).

ARMED AND READY: In Jacksonville, Clayton Freeman notes the first-year NASL club Jacksonville Armada FC yesterday rolled out their "Set the Record campaign ... four days ahead of Saturday’s first-ever regular season match against FC Edmonton at EverBank Field." Armada FC President Steve Livingstone said that 12,000 tickets "have been sold." The team’s "target is the NASL’s single-game attendance record of 14,593, set last July in Ottawa." The match will be the "last scheduled at EverBank Field" before the Armada enter the remainder of their schedule at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. That venue "has an official soccer capacity of 8,566" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 4/1).

INDEPENDENCE DAY: In Charlotte, Erik Spanberg notes USL club Charlotte Independence hope to "break even or turn a slight profit in three years." This year, the projections are for $2M "in revenue -- and losses" of $1M. Those figures "exclude the franchise fee, another $750,000 in startup costs" and $1.5M to "build a temporary 4,300-seat stadium." On the horizon is spending at least $4M, and "likely more, for renovations" to the 79-year-old Memorial Stadium. About 1,000 season tickets, priced at $100 to $900, were "sold heading into the first game" last Friday (CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL, 3/27 issue).
