Start Me Up: Rolling Stones To Play First Non-Race Weekend Concert At IMS

The Rolling Stones today confirmed "a July 4 performance at Indianapolis Motor Speedway," which will be "one of the biggest music events" in the city's history, according to David Lindquist of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. The show being played on Independence Day makes it "a centerpiece of the band's 15-date North American tour." IMS President Doug Boles noted the show will mark the first time the speedway has "hosted a concert on a non-race weekend" (INDYSTAR.com, 3/31). ROLLING STONE's Kory Grow notes the band's 15-city "Zip Code" tour of North American stadiums and ballparks "will kick off May 24th at San Diego's Petco Park." The last time the group "toured U.S. stadiums" was in '07 (ROLLINGSTONE.com, 3/31). BILLBOARD's Jem Aswad notes this summer's tour "passes over major markets the band hit" on its 50th anniversary tour in '12 and its "50 and Counting" tour in '13, "focusing on second-tier cities like Dallas, Kansas City, Buffalo and Orlando" (BILLBOARD.com, 3/31).
