Franchise Notes

In Indianapolis, Dana Hunsinger Benbow notes the Colts announced their "new marketing campaign Thursday, based on a simple, short word: 'One,'" and it might seem the team is "making an ultra political statement," as the Religious Freedom Restoration Act was also signed Thursday. The campaign will "likely make a few people wonder" given the "timing of its launch and the gist of its message." But Colts Senior Dir of Marketing Stephanie Pemberton said that there is "absolutely no connection" between the two. The new slogan "replaces the team's most recent 'ColtStrong' campaign" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 3/27).

KEEP OUT: In Nashville, Dave Ammenheuser noted with a first-round Stanley Cup Playoffs series between the Predators and Blackhawks a possibility, Predators President Sean Henry is "pushing steps" to assure Bridgestone Arena and the Lower Broadway thoroughfare do "not turn into a sea of Blackhawks red." Henry: "We want to fill the building with gold, filled by our fans, through our fans and for our fans. Period." Ammenheuser noted the Predators "will begin selling playoff tickets this weekend" at local businesses and on Monday, tickets "will be sold online through the Predators' website -- but only to customers who live within the team's TV market" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 3/26).

FEELIN' KINDA SUNDAY: In Utah, Xoel Cardenas notes some in the Latter-day Saints community said that having Real Salt Lake home games on Sundays "conflicts with their religious beliefs." Some fans, including season-ticket holders, have "called RSL and said they will not attend Sunday home games." RSL for this season was "able to get Sunday games down from six to two." But RSL President Bill Manning said that MLS "was in [a] tough spot ... and asked the club to pick up one more home game." Cardenas notes for the "most part, fans who will not attend Real Salt Lake games on Sunday due to their personal beliefs have been understanding of the issue" (DESERET NEWS, 3/27).

WISH GRANTED: In L.A., Helene Elliott noted the Ducks "have rewarded the devotion shown" by 14-year-old fan Shaelin Earle, who has cystic fibrosis and "requested to see a Ducks game when he was granted a wish by the Make-A-Wish foundation." They gave him the "royal treatment and a number of gifts earlier this season when he visited Anaheim, but he was kept out of the locker room as a precaution because of an ongoing mumps outbreak and couldn’t meet the players." On Thursday, Earle "finally got to meet players and visit the locker room, where the Ducks had set up a stall for him with his own nameplate" (LATIMES.com, 3/26).
