Names In The News

In N.Y., Claire Atkinson cites sources as saying that Dodgers co-Owner TODD BOEHLY, who "helped pull together the complicated deal for the MLB franchise" as Guggenheim Partners President, is "considering leaving the investment firm and running his own shop." A source said, "Todd is out, and they're working on a way for him to exit." Other sources said that Boehly also is "discussing the possibility of taking some of the assets he helped Guggenheim acquire." Among those assets are Dick Clark Productions and "trade publications that are now part of Guggenheim Media." Boehly is "credited with pulling off" the $2B deal for the Dodgers and is a "major player in Guggenheim Baseball Management" (N.Y. POST, 3/26).

BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS: The court-appointed receivers in San Antonio who replaced Saints and Pelicans Owner TOM BENSON as trustee over his family's assets in Texas "have dropped their effort to get a judge's ruling on the 87-year-old's attempt to move assets, including ownership in the sports teams, out of his jilted heirs' trust funds." Co-receivers PHIL HARDBERGER and ART BAYERN were expected yesterday to "file an inventory of assets and debts in the SHIRLEY BENSON estate trust, which holds interests in Benson family real estate, car dealerships and Lone Star Capital Bank" (NOLA.com, 3/25). Meanwhile, Saints coach SEAN PAYTON said of Benson, "His mind is as sharp as ever. ... When he [is] asking me why we haven't cleaned the mail room and the coffee cups don't have lids on them. You're afraid. You go to your assistant coached and say let's get this squared away. ... He's been awesome" (NOLA.com, 3/25).

GET WELL SOON: Joe Gibbs Racing yesterday announced that President J.D. GIBBS "is undergoing treatment for symptoms related to brain function." A team statement said Gibbs had experienced a "gradual onset of symptoms that includes speech and processing issues." Gibbs’ doctors believe the complications he has experienced "were triggered by head injuries likely suffered earlier in life, but no specific injury was referenced or identified" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 3/26).
