Furniture Row Racing Looking For Primary Sponsor With Goal Of Multicar Team

Furniture Row Racing GM Joe Garone said that the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team is "actively looking for a primary sponsor for next year, with the eventual goal of becoming a multi-car team," according to Tom Jensen of FOXSPORTS.com. Garone said, "There's a misconception that we're sponsored and we're really not. Our owner owns a company that sponsors the car, but we really would like to find a partner to come on board with us to be a part of the program." Asked if Furniture Row wants to become a multicar team, Garone said, "Ultimately, absolutely. We'd like to bring some sponsorship on the 78 car and then, obviously, full sponsorship on a second program" (FOXSPORTS.com, 3/23). Martin Truex Jr. drives Furniture Row's No. 78 car, and SI.com's Andrew Lawrence noted despite the fact Truex lives in Charlotte while the team is based in Denver, the relationship between driver and team after almost two years is "stronger than ever." Along with being one of NASCAR's "most remote teams, Furniture Row is also one of its smallest." But Furniture Row "doesn't like to think of itself as a small operation." Though the team "employs just 60 people, its parent company operates one of the nation's larger retailer networks along with a massive trucking business." Furniture Row "also boasts a technical alliance" with Richard Childress Racing. Garone said, "Our team is actually a lot different from a lot of the other single-car teams, in the sense that we spend a lot of money on R&D" (SI.com, 3/20).
