Texans Owner BOB MCNAIR this week is attending the NFL owners meetings, while this time a year ago he was "battling two forms of cancer that forced him to miss" the meetings. McNair said of his 10-month ordeal with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and squamous cell carcinoma, "I have checkouts periodically, had one a couple of weeks ago, and I'm in good health. Everything's clean at this point, so that's good news." (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 3/22).

NAMES: Rockies Owner DICK MONFORT will "buy the Macaroni Grill chain of restaurants" for $8M, "taking over the fledgling franchise with a small group of investors known as Redrock Partners." IN MEMORY: Eldora Speedway Founder EARL BALTES died this morning at the age of 93. Baltes in '04 sold the track to NASCAR driver and team owner TONY STEWART, who in a statement said Baltes was "integral to the evolution of dirt-track racing and the sport as a whole" (Eldora).
