Jazz Operations To Be Unaffected By Restructuring At Miller Family Businesses

Jazz CEO Greg Miller “has decided he wants to take a step back” from his role with the family’s car dealerships and other ventures, but a restructuring at the Larry H. Miller Group “won’t affect the future” of the NBA team, according to Mike Sorensen of the DESERET NEWS. Miller wants to “pursue other personal interests.” Jazz President Randy Rigby in a statement said that it "would be business as usual" for the team. As part of the LHM Group restructuring, Miller Sports Enterprises President Steve Miller “has chosen to step down … to assist in other areas of the family’s interests” (DESERET NEWS, 3/17). LHM Group Exec VP/Communications Linda Luchetti said that Greg Miller "still will serve" on the NBA BOG, while his mother Gail, along with brothers Greg, Steve and Bryan, "will still make large-scale decisions involving the team." In Salt Lake City, Aaron Falk noted the Jazz "remain a relatively small piece of the Miller empire." Greg Miller in '11 said that three LHM-owned Toyota dealerships "brought in more revenue" than the team (SLTRIB.com, 3/16). Luchetti said that the Jazz "will not be affected and nothing is changing in the day-to-day operation of the business" (AP, 3/16). In Salt Lake City, Gordon Monson writes under the header, "Nobody Panic; The Jazz Are Here To Stay." A source said that the LHM Group and the Jazz "have never been on such solid financial ground." Monson writes selling the Jazz "would run straight into the teeth of Larry's vision for his family, his team, his company, his community." The Miller family "isn't like other mercenary NBA owners who have brazenly cashed in and moved on or back to tending their companies and chasing their interests independent of their home base" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 3/17).
