Restructuring At Penn State Athletics To Put Sports Personnel Under One Umbrella

Penn State yesterday announced that it is restructuring its athletics department to "better position its programs and best-serve its student-athletes," according to Greg Pickel of the Harrisburg PATRIOT-NEWS. Newly hired Deputy AD & COO Phil Esten and Senior Associate AD/Administration Lynn Holleran "began the restructuring in recent months." The athletic department "will still be headed" by President Eric Barron and run by AD Sandy Barbour, but "beneath them, it will split into four administrative divisions." Faculty Athletics Rep Linda Caldwell and Exec Assistant to the AD Heather Wilson will "remain in their roles." PSU yesterday promoted Associate AD and Senior Woman Administrator Charmelle Green to Senior Associate AD/Student-Athlete Performance, Health & Welfare and Senior Woman Administrator, while Associate AD/Finance Rick Kaluza "was also promoted" to Senior Associate AD/Finance & Business Operations. Esten, Green, Holleran, and Kaluza will make up the athletic department leadership team "that reports to Barbour." A "number of current staffers" also received new titles (PENNLIVE.com, 3/16). In Pennsylvania, Lori Falce notes PSU's new plan "puts everyone involved with actual sports and athletics under one defined umbrella" (CENTRE DAILY TIMES, 3/17).
