Former MLB Exec Of The Year Al Rosen Dies At 91 Of Natural Causes

Former MLB exec AL ROSEN, the "only person to win" both the MVP and Exec of the Year awards, "died of natural causes" Friday at the age of 91, according to David Colker of the L.A. TIMES. Rosen in '78 became President of the Yankees, but he "lasted only about a year before resigning." He joined the Astros, then the Giants in '85 as President & GM. The Giants won the NL West title in '87, and Rosen was named MLB Exec of the Year (L.A. TIMES, 3/15). In N.Y., Bill Madden noted Rosen replaced GABE PAUL as Yankees President in '78, but he "quickly learned" that being friends with late team Owner GEORGE STEINBRENNER and working for him "were two vastly difference things." The two men "battled constantly" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 3/15).
