NBA Kings To Have Loft Suites At New Venue Intended For Large Families, Small Companies

The NBA Kings "rolled out a product Monday aimed at a customer somewhere between a person buying a season ticket and a company getting a showy suite for the future downtown arena," according to Ben van der Meer of the SACRAMENTO BUSINESS JOURNAL. Kings President Chris Granger said at a mock-up of a loft suite at the team's Experience Center in downtown Sacramento, "You should think of it as an entry to your living room." Granger said that at 200-300 square feet, the lofts "will have room for eight to 10 people, making them ideal for small- to mid-sized companies or even large families." Marketing such a product "is an acknowledgement by the team that the region's economic base has no Fortune 1000 companies, but several smaller ones." Granger said that the team "has already sold all but two of the larger suites, which would ring the arena bowl above the lofts" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 3/9).

WORK OF ART: In Sacramento, Ryan Lillis reports the Sacramento City Council last night voted to "approve a contract with renowned artist Jeff Koons" for an $8M sculpture outside the Kings' new arena. The agreement, approved by a 7-0 vote, also will dedicate $1.5M to "local art for the arena." An "overflow crowd descended on the City Council chamber for the hearing," and the vote came after "nearly three hours of passionate testimony from local artists and philanthropists" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 3/11).
