Tiger Style: Memphis Raises Football Ticket Prices Following Best Season In 76 Years

The Univ. of Memphis yesterday announced "price boosts for all seating categories following one of the most successful seasons in Tiger football history," according to Phil Stukenborg of the Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL. Lower sideline seats at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium "have increased from $150 to $200 for season tickets and end zone/upper sideline seats will be $89, up from $55." Also, several sections have been "re-designated upper sideline seats, representing a price reduction" from '14 pricing when they were designated as "prime seats." Chairback season seats "will increase from $250 to $300 and indoor club seats from $600 to $750." Despite the increases, the school said that all season-ticket prices "will be at, or below, the cost for season tickets" from '08-11. The Memphis football team last season "won a share of the American Athletic Conference," winning 10 games "for the first time since 1938" (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 3/3).

SECURING THE NEST: In Des Moines, Rick Brown notes the Univ. of Iowa "has offered students a sweetheart deal" on football season tickets in "response to declining numbers in recent years." Students who "purchase season tickets by May 15 will pay just $125, a $50 savings." All new students "will also pay just $125 if they purchase their tickets by July 31." Student-ticket sales at Iowa "have nose-dived in recent seasons." A total of "10,371 student tickets were sold" in '12. The figure "dipped to 7,382" in '13 and 6,440 in '14. Season tickets purchased by the general public "have also fallen off, though not as drastically as the student sales have." Iowa sold "39,786 season tickets to the general public" in '12. That number "dropped to 38,637" in '13 and 37,823 in '14. General public season tickets "will cost $395 for 2015, the same as last season" (DES MOINES REGISTER, 3/3).
